KU Young enterprise offered us great experience to participate in trade fair at Old Spitalfields market. Our company, SalesExpress, decided to join the trade fair because we had a large stock of goods, so it would be a good chance to sell out. Our team member Joanna, Ali, Eleven and I attended with big expectation of selling. We set up the table nicely as we used to display, and received visitors warmly.
However, there were full of different students who also participated in this trade fair for their business, so it was quite hard to find our target customers, London travellers. Eventually, we sold only 4 gloves at Spitalfields market, but we got priceless feedback from judges, business person and other students. When we stood in front of our booth, we had a short moment to meet judges. They asked about financial plan, product initial idea, manufacturing, original cost etc. Our speech was not that good because we were all international students, but their comment was positive and useful. The most memorable feedback was from Fin O’kane who is the CEO of Wiser. He seemed to have an interesting of our products and gave his business card with suggestion of another big market for selling gloves. He told us, he can introduce one of his friends who deal with accessories and this kind of stuff, if we send email later. We believe it can definitely be good opportunity to encounter our target customers.
Besides O’kane, other visitors also gave helpful comments. One person suggested that it would be better to attract various consumers if we produce different colours apart from black and grey. He has a daughter who worked in Fashion company in New York, and New Yorker like colourful gloves according to him. He advised that varied colours will be popular in London as well. In addition to this, sharing business ideas with other students also acts as a powerful stimulus. We could learn their skills of speech, brilliant ideas and passion for business. Even though we didn’t get much profit at this trade from the business viewpoint, we could accumulate not only experience, but also acquaintance.
