I am going to talk about sustainable design. When we create products, our first consideration is the interpersonal relation reflecting on society’s and culture’s characteristics based on the environment and ethics.
With technology advancing at a fast-growing rate, lots of new products outpour at a rapid pace, because consumers always want to get a stylish brand new model. There are lots of retailers, but how long is its durability? Is it a worth the money? Are there better replacements for the good? Nevertheless, it is not very necessary as climax of designs change in monthly basis.
Especially, in the fashion industry, fast fashion is widespread in order to follow current fast progressing trend, for example SPA brands such as ZARA, H&M, Forever 21 and Top Shop that sales very good globally since they are capturing this trend. Fashion design has a short hype period, since the prices of the clothing market is falling people constantly buy and replace new outfit to their previous items as they go out of season very quickly. Therefore consumers buy their good as soon as they see it because it may be out of stock the next visit, and the availability of products in high street shops is very short.
This trend is favourable for consumers as they design and produce cheap and rapidly making the price to drop, but the problem is that it causes disposable fashion which is very harmful to our planet. The ecosystem and aquatic terrestrial environment is being harmed by every step in the production series, with the waste they produce and dispose. To overcome these environmental issues, there needs to be a slow fashion movement to get rid of pollution to a lower extent.
I think good design should lead the world to better direction. Nowadays climate change is occurring more rapidly, and people are more aware of this situation. If we act now, we can alter climate change which already happened. The environmental crisis is a humanitarian crisis. We are part of the nature, so we should consider environment for the future generation.
